EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Sonoma Valley Unified School District picked Jason Sutter as its new superintendent. A longtime local resident with decades of education experience, he will be formally approved on Feb. 12 and begin his role on Mar. 1 — succeeding interim superintendent Rena Seifts. KSRO Radio
- ➤ The Windsor Unified School Board will reconsider its decision to block Neal Shusterman’s Scythe from the curriculum on Feb. 19 — more than a dozen supporters, including teacher Julie Forrest, students, parents and teachers, have urged for a change amid concerns over censorship. KSRO Radio
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The aging Neeley Road wastewater plant in Guerneville released 5.5 million gallons of untreated sewage into the lower Russian River over three days after heavy rains, forcing closures of local beaches along a 40-mile Sonoma Coast stretch. State regulators are investigating while officials say the outdated system needs costly upgrades. KSRO Radio
- ➤ After heavy rains, Lake Sonoma and Lake Mendocino topped their targets, and North Bay reservoirs hold enough water for 700,000 customers through year’s end. The Army Corps of Engineers released 22,000 gallons per second from Warm Springs Dam to prepare for more storms. KSRO Radio

- ➤ Santa Rosa Police Department is hosting a public meeting to let residents see its military-grade equipment including drones, a Rapid Response Vehicle, and an Armored Rescue Vehicle in line with Assembly Bill 481. Staff will explain the gear and answer questions (no RSVP is required). KSRO Radio
