- ➤ The City Council approved a multimillion-dollar plan to upgrade Martin Luther King Jr. Park near the fairgrounds (adding a futsal hardcourt, improved lighting, a revamped soccer field, play areas, green space, and public art) and the project will modernize one of the city's oldest parks to create a safer hub. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Southwest Airlines is launching nonstop flights from Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport to Austin-Bergstrom International on Saturdays starting October 3 + the carrier began daily Santa Rosa routes on April 7 and will expand Denver service from late August due to high demand. KSRO Radio
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Santa Rosa City Schools trustees approved a $34 million budget plan that cuts over 100 staff positions to avoid a state takeover — impacted employees will receive layoff notices by March 15 and the plan finalizes June closures of Steele Lane Elementary and Hilliard Comstock Middle School. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Santa Rosa City Schools Trustee Roxanne McNally resigned effective immediately due to health strains from balancing her full-time teaching role and board duties — Board President Nick Caston said the vacancy will be filled by appointment once applications open on Feb. 25, with a new trustee expected in April. - ➤ Santa Rosa City Council unanimously approved a $37 million, 1,000-ft pedestrian and bike bridge over Highway 101 that will link Elliott and Edwards avenues near Santa Rosa Junior College — construction will begin in March and the bridge will open in summer. KSRO Radio
