COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Sonoma County Tool Library will reopen this Saturday at the new coLAB space on Mendocino Avenue. The rebranded nonprofit, led by Executive Director Martin Reed, offers over 1,000 free tools plus plans to expand with micro-sites in nearby cities.  KSRO Radio
  • The Humane Society rescued 30 dogs from a failing Clearlake shelter tonight after they arrived severely malnourished and with parvovirus (including a gentle giant named Biggie). Staff and local clinics overcame winter storms delaying medicine and now ask the community for donations and adoptions.  KSRO Radio
  • A new survey by Sonoma County Tourism shows that 85% of locals see tourists as bringing needed spending despite increased traffic. Nearly 900 residents said outdoor recreation is the top draw and they favor boutique hotels & repurposed historic buildings over large-scale developments.  KSRO Radio

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mobile tortillerías are rolling into Santa Rosa and Napa this year as custom-built trailers churn out up to 3,000 fresh tortillas per hour + they provide a preservative-free taste of home for local Latino residents. Owners say these trailers are cheaper to launch than traditional storefronts.  KSRO Radio

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in the Bay Area increased to $5.20 per gallon on March 9, up from $4.66 a week earlier, according to AAA data. In Santa Rosa, local options offered rates as low as $4.69 at Quick Stop (cash only), giving drivers a chance for lower prices amid rising costs.  NBC Bay Area

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Seven North Bay school districts are reporting financial troubles as falling enrollment and rising payroll costs force Santa Rosa City Schools to close six schools while other districts plan layoffs and furlough days to avoid a state takeover.  KSRO Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials in Sebastopol are planning to convert Highway 116 through downtown from one-way to two-way traffic. The proposal will narrow Main Street, add protected bike lanes on Petaluma Avenue, keep parking intact, and install a lighted crosswalk at Burnett and Main while Highway 12 remains unchanged.  KSRO Radio

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Generation Housing is urging Sonoma County cities to implement SB 10 and AB 1033 to boost infill housing for middle-income residents; Sebastopol already approved ADU (accessory dwelling unit) sales, and more cities are expected to follow to reach a goal of thousands of new homes by 2031.  KSRO Radio

  • Kylen Mills will join NBC Sports Bay Area as host of Giants Pregame and Postgame Live this season, returning to the Bay after two years in Illinois and drawing on her experience from KRON4 and the Pac-12 Network for the start of the season.  NBC Bay Area
