  • On Saturday, Montgomery High named its baseball field after legendary coach Russ Peterich as former players and colleagues celebrated his nearly 60-year impact on local athletics — the ceremony even featured a playful moment when the sign briefly showed a K instead of an H.  KSRO Radio
  • The Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women hosts a panel in Santa Rosa at 6:00 p.m. Thursday to discuss income security, healthcare and housing challenges for aging women—a session that will produce a report for policymakers this summer.  KSRO Radio

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • CAL FIRE investigators returned today near Geyserville to probe a four-acre brush fire that broke out Sunday on Briggs Ranch Road while firefighters safeguarded nearby structures & monitored hotspots.  KSRO Radio
  • A fast-moving house fire broke out Friday night on Greeneich Avenue in a Santa Rosa neighborhood, claiming a woman's life and sending a man to hospital for smoke inhalation; firefighters contained the blaze in 20 minutes as investigators looked into an electrical fire (likely starting in the kitchen).  KSRO Radio

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sonoma Clean Power is launching Business One Stop Shop (BOSS) in downtown Santa Rosa with a $4.5 million boost, a three-story hub converted from a $3.2 million building that will offer coworking spaces, a podcast studio and workshops for minority entrepreneurs.  KSRO Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at Taylor Mountain Elementary are learning teamwork and gardening as they tend a new campus garden built with wine-barrel beds by volunteer Dillon Forsyth. The garden (built last month) features tomato, kale and carrot seeds chosen by kindergartners and is a vital outdoor classroom.  KSRO Radio
  • Sonoma Valley Unified School District will update on potential staff layoffs and campus futures this Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Sonoma City Chambers + trustees will also discuss Altimira Middle School renaming, a $10.5 million energy modernization plan and Woodland Charter oversight.  KSRO Radio
  • Santa Rosa City Schools will spend $129 million this spring on construction projects using bond funds. The district will update Piner High and Santa Rosa Middle to prepare for displaced students and break ground on a $56 million headquarters on April 22 + trustees will review the master plan then.  KSRO Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A proposal to log 1,200 acres at Berry's Knotfarm near Jenner is sparking debate over potential erosion and fish habitat damage. State officials will accept public comments until April 13 — local residents urge strict review of the project’s environmental impact.  KSRO Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting April 12, SMART trains and local buses will operate as a unified network to improve commuter service between Marin and Sonoma counties. The plan will eliminate redundant routes, extend service hours, and adjust select Golden Gate Transit bus routes along Highway 101.  KSRO Radio

  • Sebastopol mother Ashlee Sugg is urging neighbors to call 911 when someone is unresponsive after her daughter’s accidental death from alcohol and medication—a plea to support Good Samaritan laws that protect early emergency intervention.  KSRO Radio
