  • Mini Cat Town closed its ground-floor space at Santa Rosa Plaza last month after placing over 300 kittens — the nonprofit will now focus on its four remaining Bay Area locations. The mall is preparing for change as Shoe Palace moves into a remodeled second-floor store this summer.  KSRO Radio

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Alaska Airlines will add three seasonal nonstop routes from Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport to Boise, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City starting Nov. 1 – the service aims to meet high local demand and boost tourism by reducing trips to Bay Area hubs.  KSRO Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Santa Rosa Junior College students are among 40,000 community college attendees who have not yet claimed up to $1,500 in CalKIDS funds, leaving over $20 million unclaimed statewide. Financial aid director Lauren Coburn said students face extra-step challenges and encouraged them to seek help at the financial aid office (eligibility details are available online).  The Oak Leaf

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A 4.2 magnitude earthquake shook parts of the North Bay early Thursday morning at 2:42 a.m. near Cobb in Lake County, with its epicenter 13 miles north-northeast of Healdsburg; no injuries or damage have been reported.  NBC Bay Area
  • Sonoma County will host meetings on May 14 and May 16 at Zero Waste Sonoma to discuss a proposed compost facility at 5200 Slusser Road that would process 70,000 tons of green bin material annually — a plan aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and benefiting local farms.  KSRO Radio
