  • The Santa Rosa community is supporting 22-year-old Jasmine Mayer, paralyzed on May 17 when a tree branch fell during her knitting at Steele Lane Park; she had emergency surgery and coworkers at Cast Away Yarn Shop launched a GoFundMe campaign that raised over $57,000 for her rehabilitation.  KSRO Radio

  • Ross Dress for Less has signed a lease at the former Rite-Aid site in Maxwell Village off Highway 12 and is set to open its new store on July 18. The retailer, its sixth in Sonoma County, has begun hiring for multiple positions.  KSRO Radio
  • Warike Restobar, a unique Peruvian eatery on Fourth Street, closed abruptly last Saturday after owner Luigi Dagnino announced the decision on Instagram. The restaurant, active since summer 2021, ended a five-year run, and fans can still enjoy its dishes at the sister location in Petaluma.  KSRO Radio

  • Local apple growers in Sonoma County are expecting a poor harvest as fire blight and an erratic spring leave many trees bare. Rising diesel costs & higher supply prices add pressure that could force growers to limit market deliveries.  KSRO Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Steele Lane Elementary in north Santa Rosa is set to close permanently on its last day of school this Thursday, ending 76 years of service. Nearly 450 students will shift to other campuses as the district adds 11 portable classrooms amid a restructuring plan.  KSRO Radio
  • The Children’s Museum of Sonoma County is expanding its Santa Rosa campus to add new indoor and outdoor spaces to meet rising visitor demand. The expansion will offer interactive exhibits, specialized classes, and community events — providing more room for local learning and family fun.  KSRO Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Cal Fire crews & The Wildlands Conservancy completed a 13-acre prescribed burn at Jenner Headlands Preserve near Duncans Mills Sunday using nine fire engines and a water tender to reduce hazardous vegetation. Officials will monitor the area for lingering smoke over the next days.  KSRO Radio

  • Santa Rosa Fire Department has declared the start of fire season today as warmer weather approaches; officials urge residents to review fire-safety measures + prepare for potential wildfires.  NBC Bay Area

HEALTH NEWS

  • NeilMed co-founders donated $5 million to build a new imaging center inside the Hansel Family Care Center across from Providence Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Their gift covers a quarter of the twenty-million-dollar cost and will help local elderly and disabled patients access advanced cardiac and AI diagnostic scans.  KSRO Radio
