ECONOMY NEWS

  • Starting July 1st, Californians will see gas prices potentially jump as high as 70 cents per gallon due to an annual excise tax hike (and new California Air Resources Board regulations aimed at cleaner fuels) as experts predict extra costs from Low Carbon Fuel Standard amendments (which may drive future price increases).  KSRO Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sonoma State University’s Interim President Emily Cutrer said that a $45 million one-time funding boost—meant to support career development and healthcare programs including the nursing program—is set aside after a $24 million deficit forced cuts in programs and faculty. She added that she will step down by December 1st while the university uses the funds as part of its Bridge to the Future plan.  KSRO Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, a 62-acre prescribed burn is underway at Triangle G Ranch on Viewcrest Drive—smoke is visible from Sonoma, Glen Ellen, and Petaluma as firefighters train to reduce wildfire risk. The Sonoma Valley Fire District will also conduct training burns tonight from 5 to 9 p.m. and again Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.—residents with respiratory sensitivities should limit their exposure.  KSRO Radio
