- ➤ Kathy King, executive director of Sonoma Overnight Support, stepped down after a decade of leadership as she helped expand services by opening Unity Kitchen and serving over 76,000 meals this year — her successor has not yet been named. KSRO Radio
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Santa Rosa Police Department is investigating a shooting near an apartment—an argument turned into a fight on July 8th, and suspect Cesar Pacheco allegedly grabbed a gun from his apartment—firing a shot that missed the victim. KSRO Radio
- ➤ On Sunday night, a man barricaded himself in a house during a domestic violence incident in Duncans Mills—forcing deputies, a SWAT team and a hostage negotiation team to close Freezeout Road for several hours, and he later surrendered and was taken to jail. KSRO Radio
- ➤ The federal extortion trial of former officer Joseph Huffaker began on July 8th—he is accused of stopping drivers on Highway 101 and stealing their cash and marijuana, with prosecutors expected to call up to 34 witnesses. KSRO Radio
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Sonoma Valley Hospital launched its 'My Hospital' campaign on July 8 to highlight its key care services—emergency care and cancer treatment—and to build trust with local residents. Leslie Petersen from the hospital foundation said community members are invited to share their stories to support the hospital. KSRO Radio
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Santa Rosa native Andrew Vaughn was called up from Triple-A by the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday when Rhys Hoskins went on the injured list—he was traded from the Chicago White Sox on June 13th. KSRO Radio
- ➤ Montgomery High School hired former Vikings standout Troy Stevenson as the new men’s varsity basketball coach on July 8th—he brings nine years of college coaching experience as an assistant at SRJC and aims to build on a team that finished as last season’s NCS Division 2 runner-up. KSRO Radio
