ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office identified two Bay Area residents as victims in drowning incidents that happened over the weekend on the Russian River; 17-year-old Elan Miranda of Oakland was pronounced dead after struggling in the water at Monte Rio Beach and 31-year-old Pranav Narain of San Francisco died after falling from a paddleboard at Martinelli Beach, with neither wearing a life jacket.  NBC Bay Area

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Trader Joe’s filed a lawsuit on July 3 against animal welfare group Direct Action Everywhere for trespassing and disrupting business during in-store protests in Sonoma County. The suit, which accuses protesters of chanting and moving chicken products from carts while targeting Petaluma Poultry for alleged animal cruelty, is set to go to court on December 2—marking a legal clash similar to moves by other companies.  KSRO Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Evelyn Mendez was named Sonoma County’s first standalone Registrar of Voters by the Board of Supervisors and will be officially appointed on July 22. Her role (created in January to remove conflicts) draws on her experience with over 110 elections (from her work in Santa Clara County) and will oversee the Nov. 4 election and future contests.  KSRO Radio
