  • Homeless Action Sonoma faces financial challenges and has partnered with Catholic Charities of Northwest California to oversee daily operations including case management and support services beginning this week—HAS retains its property and remains an independent nonprofit.  KSRO Radio

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sonoma County wine industry leaders are exploring a new self-imposed tax on direct-to-consumer sales that may raise millions by taxing tasting room—club and event purchases. The plan would not affect wine sales at grocery and liquor stores or wholesale and out-of-state transactions.  KSRO Radio
  • Michael Haney, the executive director of Sonoma County Vintners, will step down in September after serving for eleven years—leaving the nonprofit based in Santa Rosa, which represents about 250 wineries, to search for his replacement.  KSRO Radio

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Safeway grocery store employees in Northern California voted to authorize a strike if their union does not reach a new deal with the company by Friday midnight. The union said its key demands include higher wages and better benefits — points that have driven five months of negotiations affecting about 25,000 workers.  KSRO Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Windsor officials announced a new quiet zone for the SMART train that will start on Tuesday, August 5th, reducing the daily use of train horns to safety checks—three early morning southbound weekday trains will also return to schedule.  KSRO Radio
