CRIME NEWS

  • A death investigation was underway after a man’s body was pulled from the Russian River near Forestville late Sunday morning—investigators believe he drowned after jumping from a rope swing near Hacienda Bridge on Saturday afternoon while celebrating his 35th birthday.  KSRO Radio
  • A woman died in a three-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon on Corby Avenue in south Santa Rosa when a white Lexus swerved to avoid a stopped Toyota and struck a southbound Honda head-on—police said the Lexus driver did not see the car until too late and are considering charges.  KSRO Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Santa Rosa Junior College is considering its largest bond measure yet to raise up to $952 million for a maintenance backlog and campus upgrades. College officials are surveying local voters to gauge support—this plan aims to address a $1.75 billion deferred maintenance need and may cost property owners about $60 per $100,000 in assessed value.  KSRO Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • PG&E filed formal plans to decommission the Potter Valley Project— a plan that includes two dams joining the Eel and Russian River and aims to fix a $1 million yearly loss. Federal approval is underway while dam removal will not begin until after 2028 and the public can now submit comments.  KSRO Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The County of Sonoma began revising the environmental impact report for Eldridge Renewal LLC’s redevelopment of the Sonoma Developmental Center property this week, focusing on the 160-acre campus that served the developmentally disabled until 2018. The project will include 990 residential units (124 affordable), 400,000 square feet of mixed-use space, and parks linking to 750 acres of open space, with public scoping sessions planned after a Notice of Preparation is published in August.  KSRO Radio

  • At the 2025 NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway, top fuel driver Brittany Force set a new national speed record by exceeding 343 mph during Friday night's qualifying—winners also included Doug Kalitta in top fuel, Austin Prock in funny car, Greg Stanfield in pro stock car, and Richard Gadson in pro stock motorcycle.  KSRO Radio
