- ➤ A new farmers market will open on Sunday, August 17 at the Woodland Star Charter School in Glen Ellen and will operate weekly from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market will feature local artisans and food makers — its organizers hope it will become a year-round hub for the community. KSRO Radio
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Santa Rosa man, Jude Ian Kellner, pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter after being accused of killing his stepbrother in Camp Meeker and claimed self-defense during the 2021 incident + he will be sentenced on September 3rd after two trials without a verdict. KSRO Radio
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A veteran SSU lecturer who ended a 30-year academic career noted that the university, after peaking in community and student growth until 2017–a shift brought on by the Tubbs fire and subsequent challenges–now plans to adopt a global strategy to boost enrollment and forge stronger regional ties. He said innovative, startup-like approaches will be key to ensuring SSU’s long-term financial stability and community benefits as the Fall semester begins. KSRO Radio

- ➤ The Sonoma County Department of Child Support Services was recognized by the state for its family-first approach when it handled over 9,000 cases and distributed more than $30 million last year — supporting local children in our community. KSRO Radio
- ➤ The Sonoma County Civil Grand Jury called for clearer fee-setting procedures after last year's steep fee hike in Santa Rosa’s historic districts—jurors noted that the city followed the proper legal process despite fees rising more than a thousand percent. KSRO Radio
- ➤ Immigration advocates are beginning a hunger strike outside the Sonoma County Administration Building; seven people will camp there without food for at least a week. They urge county leaders to pass a sanctuary ordinance protecting local immigrant communities—protest expected to continue through the next Board of Supervisors meeting. KSRO Radio
- ➤ Governor Newsom's emergency proclamation may free up funds for repairing North Bay roads damaged by January and February storms—county leaders plan to use the money to secure millions in recovery funds. KSRO Radio
