CRIME NEWS

  • An off-duty sheriff’s deputy fatally shot his domestic partner at her Santa Rosa apartment and later killed himself in the coroner’s office parking lot, leaving three children with relatives — police said the incident, which unfolded over the weekend, is believed to be related to domestic violence despite no prior reports.  NBC Bay Area

CULTURE NEWS

  • John Ash, the celebrated chef and founder of John Ash & Co. who was known as the father of wine country cuisine, died Aug. 7 after a brief illness from a heart condition; he was 83 & is survived by his children and seven grandchildren with a memorial service planned.  KSRO Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, several North Bay legislators are hosting a forum at Sonoma State University’s Wine Spectator Learning Center from 2 to 5 p.m. to decide how to best use a $45-million funding package included in the state budget — the package secured in June to support the school’s turnaround plan.  KSRO Radio
  • Ten immigration advocates have been on a hunger strike since last Tuesday outside the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors offices to demand a sanctuary ordinance that protects the community from ICE raids— they plan to attend the board meeting tomorrow to press for action. This protest marks their seventh day of demanding change.  KSRO Radio
