CRIME NEWS

  • Santa Rosa Police arrested a local man on September 6 for DUI and possessing unregistered firearms after officers responded to a call near the 1000 block of Spenlow Road when he reportedly had a gun to his head—he was taken to Sonoma County Jail after tests showed his blood alcohol level was over four times the legal limit.  KSRO Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • New life-size elephant sculptures titled (Moringa and Marigold) now stand in the Sonoma Community Center gardens after being gifted by the KHR McNeely Family Foundation. The public reception was held on Thursday to honor the works created by the Real Elephant Collective of Indigenous artisans.  KSRO Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Piner High School will add a new two-story, twelve-classroom building on the staff parking lot as part of a district consolidation plan. The $2.6 million expansion will house roughly 384 seventh and eighth graders from Hilliard Comstock Middle School, which closes in June—construction is expected to be finished by next August— and will offer more access to high school programs.  KSRO Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After Labor Day weekend, drivers on US-101 in Sonoma County encountered expanded carpool lane hours in the Marin-Sonoma Narrows, with HOV lanes operating from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. instead of the old schedule—Caltrans updated permanent signs while some temporary ones still show the previous hours after the Petaluma Widening Project created 30-mile carpool lanes.  KSRO Radio
  • The Sonoma County Fire District will see a 2.4% increase in ambulance rates today as the Board of Supervisors considers a change much lower than the 24% rate the district initially asked for—fire officials said the increase is tied to inflation and that a larger hike will be requested after a financial study.  KSRO Radio

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Redwood Equities reached a $3.75 million agreement with the Windsor Unified School District to let the district buy land for a new school and allow the developer to add about 60 more homes, ending a four-year dispute over the Quail Acres development — which will feature 301 homes on 59 acres.  KSRO Radio
