EDUCATION NEWS

  • Santa Rosa Junior College unveiled Rosco the Bear Cub's new costume for the school year—patchwork denim overalls made from recycled jeans by fashion students. The update was shown at back-to-school events and received a warm local response.  KSRO Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Santa Rosa city officials are reviewing a proposal to close part of Fourth Street to vehicle traffic after decades of debate. City Council has asked staff to study traffic and parking impacts — the findings will guide if the street becomes a pedestrian-only zone.  KSRO Radio
  • The Sonoma City Council will consider a second cannabis dispensary today—after a delayed permit request and calls from residents and a local advocacy group who said one store leads to high prices and few choices—with proponents expecting the change to boost the local economy and tax revenue.  KSRO Radio
  • Sonoma County will host a public meeting on September 25 at Altamira Middle School to gather input on a new environmental study for the former Sonoma Developmental Center property—this follows a judge's rejection of an earlier plan that proposed nearly 1,000 homes, a hotel and stores. Local groups and Sonoma Valley Next 100 have raised concerns about traffic and fire safety, and the new study is expected around the new year.  KSRO Radio
