Good morning, Santa Rosa. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 2nd of October.

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Despite a challenging year of budget deficits and leadership changes, Sonoma State University edged up in the 2026 U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges rankings, tying for 13th among Top Public Schools and 23rd overall in Regional Universities West—helped by a $90 million one-time state funding boost to address its budget crisis.  KSRO Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents voiced strong opposition at a public meeting last week on the revised Environmental Impact Report for the Sonoma Developmental Center redevelopment plan, which still calls for 990 housing units and a 150-room hotel—community members raised concerns over wildfire evacuation routes and warned of further legal action if the project's scale is not reduced.  KSRO Radio
  • Caltrans announced today that the continuous 58-mile carpool lane on Highway 101 between Novato and Petaluma is complete — eliminating remaining bottlenecks and promising long-term safety improvements, though drivers face longer commutes with extended HOV hours and EV owners will lose decal access starting Wednesday.  KSRO Radio
