EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sebastopol Union School District faces criticism after families reported that bullying and bias at Brook Haven Middle School have affected 50% of seventh graders, which is much higher than state and county averages. The district has launched an anti-racism plan while parents demand greater accountability from school officials.  KSRO Radio
  • Facing a $10 to $15 million budget shortfall, Santa Rosa City Schools officials proposed closing Abraham Lincoln Elementary by June and consolidating other elementary schools into new grade configurations (transitional kindergarten to grade 3 and grades 4 to 6) to save money. The board did not take a vote and demanded more financial details before moving forward.  KSRO Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors and the Fair Board will hold a special joint meeting on October 17th to discuss a proposal from the United Soccer League—this plan aims to build a multi-purpose stadium at the Fairgrounds to host professional soccer, concerts, and community events. With horse racing over at the site, county leaders plan to transform the Fairgrounds into a long-term hub for sports and entertainment while keeping the annual Fair.  KSRO Radio
  • Cornerstone Properties — a North Bay developer — is asking a court to review Santa Rosa’s decision to retake the 410 B Street property after the city said the firm broke a 2021 sale deal by not advancing development on that lot and two nearby sites. The company says it met all requirements and spent over three million dollars and 7,000 hours planning while some of its other projects have stalled.  KSRO Radio
