EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Rincon Valley Union School District in Santa Rosa faces an $8.5 million deficit from declining enrollment, rising costs, and lost pandemic funds—and will cut spending over the next two years. More layoffs are expected after cuts made last spring—and the board will review final proposals before mid-March.  KSRO Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire officials declared the wildfire season over for our city today after weeks of cooler weather and rain lowered fuel levels; enforcement of the weed abatement ordinance has been suspended—shifting the fire department to a winter response model that requires fewer firefighters, and pile burning permits will be issued starting in November.  KSRO Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Santa Rosa Police Department is highlighting National Teen Driver Safety Week — urging parents and caregivers to talk with teens about safe driving habits — as car crashes remain a leading cause of teen death, with over 2,600 fatalities nationally in 2023.  KSRO Radio
