  • Tens of thousands of Sonoma County residents face food insecurity after federal SNAP benefits were suspended; Petaluma’s Committee on the Shelterless announced that its Mary’s Table kitchen is now serving free hot meals seven days a week + meals can be picked up daily at 900 Hopper Street to help prevent hunger among parents and seniors.  KSRO Radio

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Flagship Taproom filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection with $1.3 million in liabilities after unprofitable expansion led to the closing of its Cotati and Windsor sites. The company will now concentrate on its downtown Santa Rosa bar at 446 B Street — management is optimistic the restructuring will safeguard employee jobs.  KSRO Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A geomagnetic storm Tuesday night produced visible northern lights across much of the northern United States, including our skies in Northern California. The sun is at the peak of its 11-year cycle and experts say more displays will appear in the coming months—sky watchers should check local aurora forecasts.  NBC Bay Area

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sonoma County is asking residents to help expand its electric vehicle charging network by providing input on an interactive map in the EV Master Plan survey — their feedback will guide plans to install new charging stations in areas that need them most. The survey remains open through January.  KSRO Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Officials confirmed three cases of highly pathogenic avian flu on commercial farms in Sonoma County over the past three weeks — a development that led to the culling of over 350,000 birds. Poultry producers have tightened biosecurity measures and called for a vaccine to help control the outbreak.  KSRO Radio
  • Open enrollment for Covered California began Monday as Speaker Pelosi and local officials urged residents to sign up early amid a government shutdown that risks cutting vital federal tax credits. The agency warned that without congressional action by January, premiums for over 1.7 million people could nearly double + more than 150,000 residents may face loss of affordable coverage while the state risks losing $2.5 billion in funding.  NBC Bay Area
