- ➤ Catholic Charities of Northwest California secured $350,000 in federal funding to open a new youth shelter in Santa Rosa to replace the county's only facility for at-risk teens and young adults. The planned shelter will offer six beds & intensive case management and mental health support, and the organization must raise another $200,000 to complete renovations and open the doors as soon as possible. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Waymo got DMV approval to extend its driverless robotaxi service throughout the Bay Area plus into Sonoma County up to Cloverdale and east to Sacramento. The company said it looks forward to serving more Californians, but a rollout date has not been set. KSRO Radio
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Sebastopol architect Ken Moholt-Siebert is building a near-replica of the iconic 16-sided Fountaingrove Round Barn above his vineyard near Santa Rosa eight years after it burned in the Tubbs Fire. The new barn (using fire-resistant materials) is set to be completed next summer and will restore a cherished piece of local heritage. KSRO Radio
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Charles M. Schulz—Sonoma County Airport recorded 67,837 passengers in October—a modest increase from September though still below last October's numbers. Year-to-date traffic is up over 10% due to carriers like Alaska and American and the airport expects a boost when Southwest begins service next April—serving destinations including Denver, San Diego, and Las Vegas. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A magnitude 4.1 earthquake shook northern California roughly 37 miles north of Santa Rosa at 7:08 a.m. Monday near The Geysers— a 2.8 aftershock was felt minutes later. KSRO Radio
- ➤ A 4.1 magnitude earthquake hit northern Sonoma County on Monday morning at 7:08 a.m., centered about 3.3 miles southwest of Cobb (Lake County) with the epicenter 13 miles north of Healdsburg and 17 miles north of Windsor; no damage or injuries were reported. NBC Bay Area
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Santa Rosa is hosting a vital food drive to support the Redwood Empire Food Bank and ease food insecurity in the North Bay. Residents and staff will drop off canned goods & nonperishable items like tuna, peanut butter, rice and dry beans at City Hall and community centers until December 18 while online donations will help each dollar turn into $3 worth of food.
